Have you ever wondered why some people are able to capture the attention of their audience and influence their thoughts the moment they speak, while others can’t, even though the same message is being communicated out.
I recently attended training to enhance my real estate knowledge and skills. I wouldn’t go to the extent of saying it was a life changing experience… yet, although it definitely opened my mind to new perspectives and even discovered strength that I am able to leverage on.
Honestly, I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in, although I do know the trainer is more than qualified with the required skill sets along with track records to back it up.
First order of the day was to brush up on communication skills. I never really put much thought to it as it seems to come quite naturally (for me, at least). I know for a fact how we speak and our choice of words can impact how the message is relayed to our audience. However, it didn’t occur to me that in my subconscious use of certain words that are redundant may weaken the message I want to get across.
During the training, I made a conscious effort to omit these words and as you may have guessed, it was a lot harder than it seems, although I did catch myself using less of it by the end of the day.
Next is the discovery of a strength that I did not realize I had till the trainer pointed it out. I was told the tone of my voice is an asset as it portrays assurance and I sounded wise.
The voice of Morgan Freeman (one of Hollywood top actors) is one that I’ve admired for a very long time. His voice always seems to impart so much wisdom and assurance, especially in his voice overs for characters he portrays.
I was naturally happy to learn that my tone has similar qualities (not in terms of how my voice sounds and also I’m nowhere close to Mr. Freeman) and will definitely be making use of that to my advantage.
The above is just the tip of the iceberg of what I got out from the training and of course there is a lot more to it.
However, what I find differentiates this training from others (that I attended previously) is the focus on critical soft skills sets that often lacks in many real estate training in the market. It is these skills that sets you apart from “the others” and takes you to the next level.
